In contrast to conventional devices our XUV spectrometer does not ]6?c8/M  
require a narrow entrance aperture but rather images the harmonic source FFD*e-i  
directly onto the detector. Thus 80% or more of the incoming beam can be y<IZ|f

This configuration typically collects 15 to 25 times more light than 2@=cqD7x  
standard versions, resulting in a signal-to-noise figure improved by the KxgR5#:i"

In some experiments, this improved signal strength is the crucial step oHc-0$eMKY

Our instruments are based on high quality aberration-corrected cLN[o8 ZU  
flat-field gratings. In contrast to conventional gratings these focus \$$b",2 h  
all wavelengths onto a plane rather than a circle. This allows for >%jEo'0;_  
positioning the entire detector in the focal plane of the grating for 'JW_]z1

The spectrometer is very compact and can be bolted directly to a vacuum TS~Y\Cp  
chamber. It is capable of carrying its own weight, no table required. x1&b@u

Through its modular design, our spectrometer can be adapted to a number j 44bF/  
of configurations (source distance, spectral range, detectors, vacuum X-;Qorb^  
pumping, etc). This makes it highly flexible for varying requirements  t3yQ/

The compact design of the spectrometer makes it inherently insensitive B3g82dm  
against mechanical and environmental disturbances (vibrations, >w]k3MC  
acoustics, etc). No externally moving parts and closed-loop grating 1X!f!0=g+  
actuators with absolute position monitoring add to the robustness and e$xv[9  
allow for monitoring of the grating alignment at all times. * F%ol;|Q  
In addition, the concept of a spectrometer without entrance slit also 9'/|?I  
makes the instrument less sensitive to misalignment. Under typical 1l`s1C  
operating conditions a misalignment of the beam in the dispersion ;o)`9<es!2  
direction on the entrance of the spectrometer by 500um would lead to a #&`WMLl+8  
signal reduction by more than 20% in an instrument with entrance slit <DlanczziF
