Glass selection tends to be both a science and an art. It is the intent of this paper to remove the 9!S^^;PN&
"mystique" surrounding glass selection, primarily based on the chromatic properties of the glass, }1\?()rB
and to show via careful parametric analyses how we can optimally select glasses for lenses of >";%2u1
different f/numbers, spectral bands, and performance requirements. The important roles of 9H8=eJd
refractive index and Abbe number as well as partial dispersion will be considered. Using the *e, CDV
SCHOTT glass map, six separate and identifiable regions along with glasses within each region H>Sf[8w)%
will be discussed. The goal for this paper is to make glass selection easier to understand.
